Paying for digital news subscriptions in the U.S. 2023, by generation
A 2023 survey revealed that the majority of U.S. adults admitted that they do not pay for online news subscriptions. Three quarters of those aged 18 years or above said that they did not have such a subscription, with just 13 percent paying for one to two. Gen Xers and boomers in particular were the least likely to subscribe to digital news outlets, whereas over 20 percent of younger consumers paid for three or more.
