CO₂ emissions from top power producers in the U.S. 2020-2021
Vistra Energy is the largest carbon dioxide emitter among the 100 largest power producers in the United States. Vistra Energy emitted approximately 110 million tons of carbon dioxide (MTCO₂) into the atmosphere in 2021, an increase of five percent from the previous year. The second-largest emitter in 2021 was Duke Energy, which released 86 MTCO₂. Electric power sector emissions in the U.S. are surpassed only by transportation sector emissions.
