GHG emissions of the most polluting fossil fuel operations in India 2022
The RPL Jamnagar crude oil refinery in Gujarat produced an estimated 32.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. This made it not only the most polluting asset in India's fossil fuel operations sector, but also the most polluting asset in India that year.
Meanwhile, the Gevra coal mine emitted roughly 3.5 MtCO₂e. Gevra coal mine is owned by Coal India Limited, which is one of the most polluting fossil fuel companies in the world based on cumulative emissions since 1965.
