Number of refugees in Nigeria 2000-2020
In 2020, Nigeria hosted 66.1 thousand refugees, the highest number registered in the last decades. Only at the beginning of the 1980s, the country was hosting more refugees. Nigeria represents an important link between the coast of West Africa and the trans-Saharan routes through Niger to North Africa. These routes are typically undertaken in an attempt to reach Europe.
