Coconut water health claims
Commercial coconut water is derived from the clear liquid contained inside coconuts. Both young and mature coconuts can be harvested, but young coconuts contain more water. Coconut water is purported to have a host of health benefits, including being rich in nutrients, antioxidants and reducing the risk of heart disease. It is also touted as a natural sports drink, but its efficacy is debated. While it does contain electrolytes, the balance is not in the desirable range for replenishing what the human body loses in sweat.

In 2017, Vita Coco was the most popular brand of coconut water in the United States by far, with a market share nearly 10 times greater than Zico, its closest competitor. Vita Coco had sales of 198.7 million dollars in the United States in 2018.
