Number of payment methods accepted/added by online merchants 2022, by size
Small and medium-sized e-commerce companies tend to have fewer payment methods available for customers than larger firms. A survey of merchants involved in e-commerce fraud and payment management worldwide showed that, on average, mid-market and large enterprises offered 4.5 to 5 means of payment to their clients. In contrast, smaller businesses had an average of 4.2 payment methods. Small and midsize companies also had a much lower average number of payment methods added in the previous 12 months, at only 1.7 new payment options.
