Average amount of bribes paid in Nigeria 2016-2019, by gender of payer
According to a study conducted in Nigeria, there are no significant differences between bribes paid by women and men. Nevertheless, there are differences in the amounts paid according to the public role occupied by the recipient. Teachers, lecturers, doctors, nurses, and midwives were paid the largest amounts. For instance, teachers and lecturers received on average 5.7 thousand Naira (some 15 U.S. dollars) from male bribe payers. Health workers were paid about 4.8 thousand Naira (12.5 U.S. dollars) by men, and 3.6 thousand Naira (roughly nine U.S. dollars) by women.
