Silk in India
The silk fabric has a cultural role in India and is worn on all auspicious days and festive occasions. Kanchipuram silk sarees are the most sought-after silk sarees in the country, and depending on the design, it takes between 20 to 30 days to weave a single piece. Furthermore, India produces a variety of silks such as Mulberry, Tasar, Muga, and Eri based on the silkworms’ feeding habits. One acre of the mulberry plantation produces enough foliage to feed the silkworms that create about 81 kilograms of cocoons, which harvests about 16 kilograms of raw silk.
