Japanese encephalitis is an infection that affects the brain and is caused by Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) generally spread by mosquitos.
The annual incidence of this disease in China has almost tripled between 2015 and 2018. In 2020, the number of Japanese encephalitis cases dropped to 207 in China.
