International trade in Africa by type and preferred mode of transportation 2022
In a survey conducted among CEOs in Africa between March and June 2022, nearly 34 percent of respondents indicated that they imported goods via sea. Also, road transportation was used by around 37 percent of the respondents to export goods, and by some 10 percent to import. In May 2019, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement officially entered into force after 22 African countries had ratified it. It aimed at facilitating trade within the continent.
