Degree of obstacles to internet access in India 2016-2023
In 2023, India scored 13 out of a possible 25 on obstacles to internet access, an increase from 2021. The country's inadequate infrastructure is a shortcoming, specifically in rural areas. Additionally, an increasing number of internet shutdowns, especially in the state of Manipur and the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, coupled with stringent regulation of websites, online content, and social media platforms has resulted in the country retaining a partly free internet freedom status.
