Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on the air travel transactions in Japan 2020, by type
In the week from June 10 to 16, 2020, the air travel sales volume in Japan registered a decline of 93 percent compared to the equivalent week in the previous year. This constituted a decline of over 90 percent for eleven weeks in succession since the global outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Between February 5 to 11, 2020, refund transactions peaked with a 591 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Following the global outbreak, the Japanese government has expanded restrictions on air travel in the country, gradually suspending the validity of the majority of visas issued at Japanese embassies overseas.
