Fake cyber profile offenses in India 2022, by leading state

In 2022, the state of Maharashtra in India had the highest number of incidents pertaining to the creation of fake digital profiles, with approximately 48 cases registered with the authorities. The country recorded 157 such cases that year. 
This category of crime came fell within the scope of the Information Technology Act, which came under the purview of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) involving communication devices as a medium and target, along with special and local law (SLL) provisions.
